Spelt is an ancient wheat and can be eaten by some people who find wheat hard to digest. The grains are of bread making quality, suitable for home milling. Spelt grain becomes quite creamy when stirred so it can be used to make risotto in the same way that pearl barley can, although it isn’t as starchy. Our Spelt is not pearled so it will need a longer cooking time. The Spelt grain offers a tasty alternative to rice or other grains as well as being full of fiber, protein, zinc and B vitamins.

STORAGE: Please store all grains and flour cool, away from heat and sunlight. Once opened keep the bags tightly folded up.

NB Our grain goes through a rigorous cleaning process, however we cannot guarantee that there will not be tiny traces of other seeds which are natural in the organic farming process. Spelt also is a covered grain, meaning it is in a husk and is removed by de-hulling. Occasionally tiny parts of the husk  can be found in the Spelt grain as they are extremely difficult to remove.

    This spelt is remarkable for its distinctive clean flavour and its exceptional performance. Unlike any other spelt you can buy, it is STRONG and rises incredibly well. Further it is THIRSTY and absorbs way more water than any other spelt you can buy. To that, you get much more bread for your flour! It’s milled beautifully too so is not remotely “branny”. This is the only spelt I will buy.
